Ring of Fire at Mayhem

Zima, back when he was site Q, reached out to YHC in desperation for some Q variation at Mayhem or to stick it to the new site Q, Turnover.  To the new site Q’s credit, he was conveniently out of town this week.  But he was kind enough to check in with the scheduled Q at about 9:30 last night to make sure YHC was good to go.  My response of, “nope, can’t do it. can you find a replacement?” fell on deaf ears, so here we go!

As with most of my Q’s these days, it’s based on how to let the pax who are actually in shape get a good workout while being able to keep up – so that equals timed stations!

Warm – 0 – rama

With the chillier weather, YHC didn’t want any of the older pax to pull a hammy.  So a proper warm up was needed.  Pax went through the usual list, but would mosey between each exercise.

The Thang

Ring of Fire!

  • thanks once again to the F3 Nation website, found a lovely exercise that checked off all the Q’s requirements
  • 10 exercise stations, pax do AMRAP for 1 minute at each station and then mosey to the next!
  • Burpee
  • Low Flutter
  • Jump Squats
  • Merkins
  • Freddie Mercs
  • Shuttle Run
  • CDD
  • Star Jacks
  • Lunges
  • Mt. Climber
  •  Repeato!! (for some reason it was more challenging on round 2)
  • And then a 3rd round of burpees, just for funsies
    • a few of the crazier pax did some weird, 3 merkin burpee creation that Zima created

Mosey back to cars – FIN

NMM

  • FYI – Zima runs his mouth, sometimes for the good, sometimes in NC-17 ways that’s awkward for anybody, but especially with a 2.0 present
  •  First running of mouth was when pax moseyed after SSH, brought confusion that this was #Flatline
  •  Bevo sent a later in the evening tweet saying he was bringing a FNG, and he did!  It made YHC curious about such a late tweet, turns out, he was on a milkshake run for he and his M. (pretzel caramel if you’re keeping score at home)  This would be an ongoing source of “fun” throughout the beatdown.
  •  Second running of mouth was when pax arrived at area for Ring of Fire and there was no speaker for tunes.  The Q assured the pax/Zima that a speaker was brought, but the space was too big for pax to be able to hear tunes, so it was left in the car. #performanceissues  Zima did not seem to buy this excuse.
  • Thankfully pax chose to start at the 12 o’clock position to kick off the fun, which was also the burpee station!  #crowdpleaser
  • Pro tip – late night milkshakes do not sit well in general, and specifically with Mt. Climbers
  • Third running of mouth was when Bevo’s stomach issues caused YHC to say that it gives a new meaning to the expression “put a cork in it.”  Which prompted sir chats-a-lot to direct a comment to the Q about my supply of certain items that can be found in certain stores for certain adult activities.   Hopefully Radar didn’t get too many questions from Private Bookworm on the ride home.  #thingsheardatF3
  • Offsides was dabbling in the theory of relativity when he postulated about how 60 seconds felt longer than 30 seconds, potentially even more than twice as long.  #mindblown
  • There was grumbling that this beatdown felt like a Huckleberry beatdown that just grinded on forever.  YHC took that as a compliment.
  • The lack of tunes allowed for more MC, which always makes YHC smile
  • Radar had evidently had enough when he turned his back on the pax during lunges. #fartinourgeneraldirection
  • Evidently Drip forced the pax to do 15 minutes of merkins earlier in the week, so 60 seconds was easy
  • Our FNG, Joe Schmitz is originally from Iowa, then went to Law School in Va Beach.  Pax were unaware there was a law school in Va Beach.  Naming options rolled through pork chop (somehow Offsides knew they were big in Iowa), then “Drive-thru” was tossed out based on popularity of the law school in Va Beach, which then went to Cook Out, which then went to milk shake in honor of the pax who EH’d him almost spilling merlot throughout the morning.  #obscurereferenceforthewin

    Mayhem

Special thanks to Zima for the invite to Q Mayhem.  As a Conspiracy guy, I am prone to Hanes Park, but it was great to see so many familiar  faces at a different AO.   The Thang: Mosey past the middle school to the lower parking lot for Warm-a-rama. SSH X 25 Imperial Storm Troopers…

  • Omaha Like Crazy at Mayhem

Driving to Greensboro today for my sometimes-weekly recon mission to my office to use the printer, pick up envelopes wave at masked co-workers across the divide, I listened to a talk by Tara Brach. Interesting talk, but one thing stuck out. I’ll paraphrase: once, in India, a group of men created a new public golf…

  • Rhabdo Redo

YHC pulled into the parking lot just behind a familiar black Hyundai.  Several minutes later, a thinly layered Turnover emerged from the vehicle mumbling, “Should have stayed in bed.”  Upon Workbench’s arrival, Turnover pulled the Site-Q emeritus card; “If there are less than five, we’re going for coffee.”  YHC, apprehending an impending mutiny, got things…

  • An abridged ARMageddon

YHC was in the mood for a tough, arm focused beatdown… the name dawned upon me: ARMageddon!! The plan was coming together, a beatdown that would leave the arms completely smoked. Unfortunately, it was 26 degrees and all plans involved rocks… even with thick gloves that might be too much, and  YHC didn’t want to…

  • Opps, I did it again!

As we gathered in the parking lot like we usually do, the Q arrives (in typical fashion) right on time, only to see Pony Express removing his outer layer to reveal a University of Texas sweatshirt.  I mentioned how cute that was, and he replied to the rest of the PAX with “I have other…
